Arlington Economic Development (AED) is proud to announce an innovative workforce development program to benefit Arlington residents and technology employers. AED works with the Arlington-based company Exelationthe Internship #2 in technology and engineering in the United States, as part of the Arlington Talent Pilot program.
Arlington is home to both a highly skilled workforce and many fast-growing technology companies. We know there are residents who might be interested, but may not have formal technical experience, said Marian Marquez, director of business investments at Arlington Economic Development. This program will help aspiring Arlingtonians develop in-demand skills for a career in technology through a paid experiential learning program.
The Arlington Talent Pilot Program, which uses funding from the American Rescue Plan Act, will provide 10 Arlington residents with the opportunity to gain valuable software development experience and a path to a career in technology over the next 13 months. The program is designed not only to provide experience in the technology sector for those interested, but also to provide local businesses with an increased talent pool from the local community.
“Imagine a place where every employer has access to a renewable workforce. That’s Arlington’s promise, and that’s Exelaration’s mission,” said Steve Cooper, Founder and CEO of Exelaration. “Employers want workers with hands-on experience, and Arlington’s Talent Pilot Program does exactly that. Providing residents with mentorship and real-world experience is the fastest and surest way to ‘helping local businesses, big and small, connect with the engineers they desperately need.’
Exelaration is an innovative technology company specializing in paid experiential learning opportunities for budding software developers. Exelaration began in 2009 as part of Excella, an award-winning technology services company based in Arlington. In 2020, Exelaration spun off from Excella under NextUp Solutions, an Agile training company, to independently expand its reach as technology education providers. Since its inception, Exelaration has provided over 100 participants with real-world industry experience prior to graduation.
